    Challenges for Semiconductor Innovators

    Access to Foundry Services:

    Engaging with top-tier foundries like TSMC can be a significant hurdle for smaller innovators. These foundries typically prioritise large companies with substantial production volumes, leaving smaller-scale innovators without direct access. Furthermore, many innovators are unaware that Taiwan is home to a diverse range of foundries, each with specialised expertise in various technologies.

    IP Licensing Barriers:

    Innovators with valuable intellectual property often face challenges in partnering or licensing their IP to semiconductor companies within Taiwan’s supply chain. Identifying the right partners and navigating the ecosystem can be complex and time-consuming, limiting opportunities for collaboration and growth.

    Who We Are

    Initiated by SemiVentures, SemiGateway is supported by the Global Tech Advocate - Semiconductor Working Group and Taiwan’s NARLabs (National Applied Research Laboratory).

    We collaborate with NARLabs’ partner IC design company, MicroIP (the 6th largest IC design company in Taiwan), along with additional IC design companies to be announced soon.

    Supported by NARLabs and partners like MicroIP, we leverage deep connections with Taiwan’s IC design companies and foundries to offer tailored support. These IC design firms, particularly Tier-2 players, are not tied exclusively to specific foundries. Instead, they bring extensive experience working with multiple foundries, providing access to essential toolkits, vendor codes, and specialised technical expertise.

    With these strong local partnerships, SemiGateway bridges the gap between innovators and Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem, enabling meaningful connections and successful collaborations.
